In an oral argument before the Supreme Court yesterday, Justice Antonin Scalia was questioning an attorney on duty. The justice proposes a
hypothetical to him: Suppose a man jumps into the sea and intends to committ suicide. Thirty people each with a life preserver at their feet stand on the dock. They refuse to do anything. "I don't know," Scalia explains, "Maybe they're 30 libertarians."
